Carlo Balzaretti
Curriculum vitae
Milan-born
pianist and composer Carlo Balzaretti is in the concert-panorama of Italy one
of the best and most famous musicians of his generation. He got the master in piano and
composition with the highest possible results at the local conservatoire
"G. Verdi" with Carlo Vidusso (teacher of M. Pollini), Alberto
Mozzati, Paolo Bordoni, Angelo Corradini, Danilo Lorenzini and Azio
Corghi. He also studied
musicology, direction for orchestra, and humanism.
Very
soon he imposed his name in the panorama of the international concert range by
winning first prizes in several Italian competitions (Osimo and Bologna), as
well as international contests, among which the "Maria Canals" in
Barcelona in 1982 where he came first.
In
1986, he was selected to represent his country - as the only Italian
participant - in the "Eurovision Young Musicians" in Copenhagen. He also represented Italy in the
reviews "Concert for Europe" in 1989 and 1990, arranged by the EEC
and shown, via satellite, by the Italian broadcasting station RAI.
Since 1978,
he has given more than 900 concerts and has performed both in Italy and
abroad. He participated in many national
and international festivals (Bergamo and Brescia, "Festa Musica Pro" of Assisi and Orvieto, Maggio
musicale Fiorentino,
"G.O.G. di Genova",
Stagione dell'Università Bocconi in
Milan, "the Master Concert Series" in Rome, Acc. Chigiana of Siena, Società
del Quartetto in
Bergamo, Salle Gaveau de Paris,

Istanbul, the National Concert Hall in Taipei-Taiwan and many others).
Furthermore,
he has registered recordings for DDT, Dynamic, CGD, Agorà, Radiant and Esprit
Accord, which obtained wide and favourable coverage from the competent
press. The Washington Post wrote
once: "pianist Carlo Balzaretti tantalised the audience with a solid
Mozartian technique and an intelligent conception of the work." (Mozart
Kv. 491, Kennedy Center, March 8, 1993).
Special
success for the pubblic and critic of Balzaretti were the concerts in Italy
playing the piano of Horowitz, further more the tournee in France and Italy
with the great clarinetist Gervase De Peyer and the last performance in Taiwan
with the famous sopran Chu Tai-li at the national Concert hall of Taipei where
has been presented for world-first time the composition “Elegia” for voice and
piano written by C. Balzaretti. This brain gives an important success of the
pubblic and radio.
He
performed in various concerts for orchestra and piano playing works from Haydn,
Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Fauré, under well-known directors such as Angelo
Ephrikian, Hans Graf, Daniele Gatti, Otmar Maga, Arpad Yoò and others.
As
Composer, he has published six music books for Ricordi and Warner Bros.
As
author, he has written several music books published by Ricordi, Warner Bros
and Hachette. Since many years keeps success in the order of piano education
and his works are adoptes from the conservatories and music schools.
CD-Production
of Balzaretti are the CD “Album des 6, un pianoforte tra Verlaine e Cocteau”
published by DDT of Turin, “Musica da camera di N. Rota” by Dynamic, three LP
by CGD, two of his own composition published by Bajka Music e several
registrations for Agorà, l’Esprit Accord, Dynamic, Radiant (United Kingdom)
with G.De Peyer, Accordi with the pianist Maurizio Carnelli and the CD “Chu
Tai-li Vocal Recital” for the distribution in Taiwan and China.
Balzaretti
gives once a year his Master Class at the Vatican Accademy “Santa Cecilia” of
Brescia for students of Italy, Switzerland and Taiwan.
To his
intense activity as a soloist, he adds chamber music in various formations,
amongst others with Gervase de Peyer, clarinet, Mario Carbotta, flute, the
Florestan Trio and the singer Chu Tai-Li.
Actually,
he teaches piano for the courses advanced of Bachelor of II level in Brescia
Conservatory of Music “L.Marenzio”.
