IWC
14K gold, automatic, perfect condition!
The IWC Ingenieur was introduced in 1954. Designed by Albert Pellaton, the automatic movements used in the original Ingenieurs were the calibre 852 (developed in 1952), and the date model calibre 8521, developed in 1953. These movements were used until 1958, when they were replaced by the calibre 853 and 8531, respectively. While the Ingenieur models were characterized by soft iron inserts designed to increase the antimagnetic properties of the watch, IWC also produced automatic models which were virtually identical, minus the extreme antimagnetic properties.
Here is an early IWC automatic calibre 8521 with solid 14k gold case and stainless steel caseback. The production run of the calibre 8521 places the date of this watch somewhere during 1953 to 1958. Here's the details on this highly collectible early vintage automatic: IWC Schaffhausen (14k/SS Automatic) - Excellent 34x40mm solid 14k gold casetop with signed stainless steel snapdown caseback (#1460163), signed 21 jewel calendar automatic movement (calibre 8521, #1432970), near-mint signed silver satin refinished "Pie-Pan" dial with raised gold markers, gold dauphine hands and sweep seconds, date aperture inset at 3:00, signed original crown, calf leather strap. The 21 jewel calibre 8521 automatic movement on this piece is running fine and keeping excellent time, and the calendar function works as designed.
