The Alliance for Climate Protection
The Alliance will persuade people of the importance, urgency and
feasibility of adopting and implementing effective and comprehensive
solutions for the climate crisis.
Since 1985, the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) has been working to
protect rainforests and the human rights of those living in and around
those forests. RAN campaigns for the forests, their inhabitants and the
natural systems that sustain life by transforming the global
marketplace through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent
direct action. RAN's grassroots allies carry on the essential work of
educating local communities and gathering the critical mass needed to
exert effective pressure for change when and where it is needed.
Through media campaigns, conferences, and publications, RAN's efforts
have helped to make the rainforest issue the cause celebre that it has
become in the U.S.

WATCH OUT: These people trade your name with others. ---- Jan 2010 Hi Scott
This is to confirm our conversation that
I was opted out of mailing list but I was not flagged to never receive
anything (which is what I wanted) and was not opted out of not having
my name and address traded with other organization (which is clearly
what I wanted when I asked to be removed from your mailing list). You
say you have people who are pissed at you. There is really good reason
for it. Maybe it's time to review your publicity policies. What happened to me can not simply be a mistake.
Founded in 1990, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first
line of defense when our freedoms in the networked world come under
attack. EFF confronts cutting-edge issues defending free speech,
privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today. EFF fights for freedom
primarily in the courts, bringing and defending lawsuits even when that
means taking on the US government or large corporations. By mobilizing
more than 50,000 concerned citizens through our Action Center, EFF
beats back bad legislation. In addition to advising policymakers, EFF
educates the press and public, and supports the development of
freedom-enhancing inventions.

The Southern Poverty Law Center began as a small civil rights law firm
in 1971. Today it is known for its precedent-setting legal victories
against white supremacist groups, its sponsorship of the Civil Rights
Memorial, its tracking of hate groups and its national tolerance
education programs. The Center is a nonprofit organization that combats
hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation.

any entity outside of the government.
Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing
world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational
infrastructure. We seek to intervene early in the lives of children in
the belief that education is a lifelong gift that empowers people to
ultimately improve socioeconomic conditions for their families,
communities, countries, and future generations. Through the
opportunities that only an education can provide, we strive to break
the cycle of poverty, one child at a time. Since our inception in 2000,
Room to Read has impacted the lives of over 1.2 million children by:
constructing 287 schools; establishing over 3,600 libraries; donating
over 1.4 million children's books; funding 2,336 long-terms girls'
scholarships and establishing 117 computer and language labs.

The intent of the Oak Grove School is for students to develop the
skills necessary to function in the modern world, and at the same time
to develop a foundation for inquiry into perennial questions of human
life.
Consistent with the views of its founder, J. Krishnamurti, the school
does not subscribe to any creed or ideology. Rather, it assists
students in the open-minded investigation of enduring human issues.
Krishnamurti said about the school, "The school is concerned with
freedom and order. Freedom is not the expression of one's own desire,
choice or self-interest. That inevitably leads to disorder. Freedom of
choice is not freedom, though it may appear so; nor is order,
conformity or imitation. Order can only come with the insight that to
choose is itself the denial of freedom.
In school one learns the importance of relationship which is not based
on attachment and possession. It is here one can learn about the
movement of thought,
love and death, for all this is our life. From the ancient of times,
man has sought something beyond the materialistic world, something
immeasurable, something sacred. It is the intent of this school to
inquire into this possibility."
The young are inheriting a complex world. It is a world in which rapid
technological progress goes hand-in-hand with environmental, social,
economic, and political crises. Must the young take the world as it is,
accepting an education that enables them to 'fit in' to society, or can
they learn to question deeply what they see and respond creatively out
of a sense of personal integrity that enables them to meet whatever
life may bring?
At Brockwood Park School we are committed to educating young people to
meet life as a whole. Academic excellence is absolutely necessary, but
equal importance is given to an ongoing inquiry into the way we live
our daily lives. Many of the difficulties in today's world are the
outcome of attitudes and beliefs that education for our times needs to
examine.
In the secure and friendly surroundings of Brockwood Park, students are
encouraged to reflect on their own thoughts, feelings and actions and
on those of others. Brockwood offers a setting where students and staff
can learn to live and work together harmoniously and intelligently.
This process is liberating, for with growth in awareness and
understanding of our behaviour, we can discover the immense potential
of life and our possibility of living it to the full.
Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation
organization working to protect the most ecologically important lands
and waters around the world for nature and people. Using a
non-confrontational, collaborative approach, they work closely with
partners, corporations, indigenous people and traditional communities
all over the world. Their science-based plan works to achieve tangible
results while striving to exercise integrity beyond reproach and to
operate openly and transparently.

The Natural Resources Defense Council's purpose is to safeguard the
Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on
which all life depends. We work to restore the integrity of the
elements that sustain life -- air, land and water -- and to defend
endangered natural places. We seek to establish sustainability and good
stewardship of the Earth as central ethical imperatives of human
society. NRDC affirms the integral place of human beings in the
environment. We strive to protect nature in ways that advance the
long-term welfare of present and future generations. We work to foster
the fundamental right of all people to have a voice in decisions that
affect their environment.

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF)
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), together with the people of
Africa, works to ensure the wildlife and wild lands of Africa will
endure forever. AWF is the leading international conservation
organization focused solely on Africa. We believe that protecting
Africa's wildlife and wild landscapes is the key to the future
prosperity of Africa and its people - and for over forty-five years we
have made it our work to help ensure that Africa's wild resources
endure. At AWF we approach all of our work at the landscape level -
that is to say, we look at large landscapes (we have identified eight
of these areas to date). Within these landscapes, we implement a
variety of efforts that conserve land, protect species and empower
people.

Aquaverde is a non-profit organisation based in Switzerland. It is
dedicated to supporting tribal reforestation projects in the brasilian
Amazon Forest. Our efforts impact on the whole of humanity by helping
to provide future generation’s water and clean air, while at the same
time protecting the biodiversity of the forest and offering indigenous
tribes an economic alternative to deforestation. The programs,
organized and managed by the communities themselves, assure the
protection of their natural environment, the preservation of their
culture and ancestral way of life and ultimately their existence as a
people.
The Trees you have sponsored will be planted in the reforestation
program carried out by the Surui People of Amazon, in the brasilian
state of Rondônia.
Your act motivated by solidarity and pleasure will feed the life of
those who, on the other side of the world, struggle every day to save
their environment. Your engagement brings forth dignity and most of
all the hope in a humanity where sharing, responsibility, equity and
mutual respect take a true meaning.
Every one of your foster acts is a testimony of love towards human
being and nature … We thank you for your engagement and your
generosity.

Solar
water disinfection - the SODIS method - is a simple procedure to
disinfect drinking water. Contaminated water is filled in a transparent
PET-bottle or glass bottle and exposed to the sun for 6 hours. During
this time, the UV-radiation of the sun kills diarrhoea generating
pathogens. The SODIS-method helps to prevent diarrhoea and thereby is
saving lives of people. This is urgently necessary as still more than
4000 children die every day from the consequences of diarrhoea.
