The webmaster would like apologize for this 'terrible' mistake. How can we ignorant Swiss people impossibly forget the difference between 'English' and 'Scottish'. By the way, Matthew: Today, Saturday, the froggies are going to slaughter Scotland in Murrayfield. I cannot miss this event, specially on FR2 with my friend Stéphane Roze as a co-commentator.

Jeez, the club has been discussing for ages the merits of having players who regularly attend Thursday training sessions. Whilst the discussion certainly has to take place, I just wonder about the wisdom of washing the club's dirty laundry in public (ie on this board), rather than having it out at a Spielersitzung.

Absolutely! It's a much better idea to only go with 16 players; risking injury, poor performance and de-motivation than to let someone who couldn't make it to training on Thursday play!

Building on the previous comments, I think it would be a nice idea that might help us to increase our turnouts for games if we actually used the web site to post pertinent information about the games, ie. when and where to show up for a game. Not everyone can make the Thursday training before a game and we might want to make it easier for players to know when to show up for games (especially away games).
Mr. John Smith
CH - Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at 13:08:21 (CET)
I know that there were players available for the first team who were told not to show up as they probably would not get playing time. I think there are also several players who are just waiting for a license which can actually be arranged very quickly.

Futures Team had a tough time vs.Zürich 2 on Sunday - unfortunately only 11 people turned up to play for the Futures team and they had to borrow players from Zürich. They were then driven all over the paddock by a much bigger Zürich side. Final score 49 - 10 (both Basel tries scored by the Zürich players). The First team only had 16 guys turn up for their game against Alba, and were desperately in need of some high quality substitutes, as a number of injured players had to stay on the field due to lack of reserves. Maybe we should rethink the concept....perhaps one full first team (i.e 22 players)integrating the upcoming younger guys into a team where they are can be schooled and protected by bigger more experienced players. see the RC Zürich website for their match report...

The Birds had a fantastic start to their Swiss leauge campaign with a 24 - 7 victorey over Zurich at home on Saturday (Tries: Helene (2), Jenny, Sandrine, Cons: DJ (2)). Unforunately, they did not fair so well on Sunday in the French league against Selestat and that loss means that the season in France is over as we did not make the play-offs.

Isn't it about time that we updated the "Social Events" page so that it goes beyond September 2001 ??? Make it more a sort of "Current Social Events" that we can refer to instead of "Historical" Just a thought.

It was a tough match against Sélestat on Sunday. Unfortunately St Louis/Basel lost 24 to 12 meaning that they must win the next match in order to secure a place in the semi-finals. Next Match is 17th of March in Sélestat.

I see we have no problem getting the concert work posted on the web page. Just a suggestion, but it might also be helpful if we posted the information about the games against the Dutch on March 9th as well. Who knows, we might just be able to field a full side and have spectators on the sidelines if only they know about the game.

Let's get back to rugby - what a great weekend. Good wins for both the birds and the first XV on Saturday, plus a jolly fine knees-up at the clubhouse (I think!). Sunday, the birds dragged themselves out to Thann to play with St. Louis there and kicked yet more butt. The juniors were also playing in the Bale/St. Louis combination against Thann and played good, hard rugby to win a closely-fought game. Great stuff!
