Die musikalische Reise beginnt mit dem Glockenspiel vom Churer Postplatz. Fontaunas clar resunan ertönt dort zu einer bestimmten Jahreszeit mehrmals täglich, der Klassiker aus der romanischen Chorliteratur wird von der Band übernommen und zu den Wurzeln des Jazz, dem Blues, geführt.   Schon am Concour d’Eurovision hat Da cumpignia für Furore gesorgt und hat sich so in kurzer Zeit als romanischer Standard etabliert.    Afrika, der Kontinent der Rhythmen, ist Ausgangspunkt für Sault nocturn, einen Afro-Tanz, der den Zuhörer immer wieder zwischen zwei Rhythmen hin und her reisst und dabei den Bogen bis zum legendären Elvin Jones spannt.   Eine herzzerreissende Ballade ist Has buca mumma pli. Mit einer unglaublichen Dramaturgie schwebt sie harmonisch in die Unendlichkeit, angelehnt an die Kompositions- und Spielweise von Wayne Shorter.   Heissen Partido Alto, Samba und Son verspricht La parlera, ein Feuerwerk an lateinamerikanischen und afrokubanischen Rhythmen.    Il pur suveran könnte genauso gut aus dem Fundus der amerikanischen Jazzstandards stammen. Harmonisch passt die Melodie der ersten 8 Takte genau über Harmoniefolge des weltberühmten Standards „My Romance“ von Richard Rodgers. Eine wunderbare Jazzballade die unter die Haut geht.    Der meistgesungene romanische Standard ist sicher Dorma bain. Die Melodie ist gut verpackt und bringt eine rhythmische Überraschung mit sich. Sehr speziell auch das Arrangement welches nicht wie üblicherweise mit dem Thema, sondern direkt mit einem Solo beginnt.      Ego sum pauper besteht aus einem einfachen pentatonischen Motiv, welches auch von John Coltrane stammen könnte und zieht sich durchs ganze Thema.    „Chur meets Cuba“ ist das Motto von Buna sera biala einem traditionellen Cha Cha Cha. Die kubanischen Perkussions-Instrumente finden hier genauso ihren Platz wie die neu rhythmisierte Melodie.    Einen Half-Time Shuffle im Dreivierteltakt mit Backbeat hört man wahrlich nicht alle Tage. Ferm tabac trägt diese eher rockigen Beats in die Engadiner Berge.    Tutta nanna tgu schliesst den Kreis. Ein witziger, 10-taktiger Blues als musikalische Gutenachtgeschichte.

Where lie the roots of the vast Romansh song tradition? - In classical music, in folk music, or even in Jazz? Wherever the songs may have their roots, STANDARDS OF RUMANTSCH carries the compositions into the new millennium, combining traditional melodies with contemporary jazz influences in all their stylistic facets. The familiar tunes remained thereby unchanged, however new harmonic and rhythmic arrangements and instrumentations were applied. The musical journey begins with the bell ringing of the Postplatz in Chur. Fontaunas clar resunan resounds there several times a day during a certain time of year. This classic from the Romansh choir literature is taken up by the band and brought to the roots of jazz: the blues. Da cumpignia has already made a splash at the Eurovision Song Contest and has thus within a short time established itself as a Romansh standard. Africa, the continent of rhythm, is the point of departure for Sault nocturn, an afro-dance, which constantly pulls the listener back and forth between two rhythms and thereby even spans an arch to the legendary Elvin Jones. Has buca mamma pli is a heart-wrenching ballad. With incredible drama it soars into infinity, inspired by the compositions and the playing of Wayne Shorter. Promising hot partido alto, samba, and son, La parlera is a firework of Latin-American and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Il pur suveran could well be taken from the canon of American jazz standards. Harmonically, the first eight measures of the melody precisely fit the harmonic progression of the world-famous standard “My Romance” by Richard Rodgers. It is a wonderful jazz ballad that goes under the skin. Dorma bain is surely the most sung Romansh standard. The melody is well packaged and includes a rhythmic surprise. Equally special is the arrangement, which does not begin with the usual theme but with an initial solo. Ego sum pauper consists of a simple pentatonic motive, which could stem from John Coltrane, and permeates the entire theme. “Chur meets Cuba” is the motto of Buna sera biala, which is performed as a traditional Cha Cha Cha. The Cuban percussion instruments fit in nicely with the novel rhythmisation of the melody. It is not every day one hears a half-time shuffle in ¾ time with a backbeat. Ferm tabac carries these rock-derived beats into the mountains of the Engadin. Tutta nanna tgu closes the circle: a humorous ten-measure blues as a musical bedtime story.
