Some Pictures of
Mauritius
This page might load slowly because of the
heavy picture load. There are no penguins on Mauritius by the
way, but it does look quite cute. Please be patient. It won't
take too much time to load all the pictures.
This
is the beach in front of the Hotel La Pirogue. It's a public beach.
So everyone can enjoy it. Mauritian residents are allowed to sell
goods (coconuts, pineapples and things like that) on the beach.
These merchants are usually very friendly and do have lots of
humor. They don't annoy you at all. If you don't want to buy something,
they just walk on. But the chairs are for hotel residents only...
Sunset
at the beach.
And
another sunset at the beach.
The
dining buffet at La Pirogue is quite a piece of art.
Every
second day was a buffet day. Help yourself and eat all you can
or like. The other evening, they do table service.
This
picture shows a quite tasty looking dessert buffet...
This
was called a mini safari. But it was a hell of a ride. It had
rained the day before. The car tires where completely worn off
(not unusual for this country). Anyway we climbed at least four
or five of these mountains sitting in these tiny jeeps. I lost
count during all these up and down hill roads.
This
is the view on top of one of these mountains.
This
is another shot taken on the mini safari.
This
picture was taken on the safari trip. These trees are very special,
indeed. The roots grow from the tree top to the ground. And they
are very strong. You can hang on to these roots and swing around,
just for fun.
This
picture was taken on a trip to the capital city of Mauritius called
Port Louis. It's very common to rent a cab for a trip to Port
Louis. Traveling with public transports (i.e. by bus, there are
no railroads on Mauritius) is possible and quite cheap, but it
is more convenient to rent a cab for a day. The driver will pick
you up at the time and place of your desire in the evening.
This
shopping mall resides in front of the harbor. There is a big cinema
complex in it. Lots of tiny little shops inside the mall invite
you to spend some money. And while you're in Port Louis, don't
miss the market place. There you can work on your skills to deal
with the local residents trying to sell you almost anything you
can eat or use to cook something.
This
picture was taken at a small factory where local residents build
model ships in (almost) all sizes, all hand made. Bottle ships
are available, too. These ships all do look great. They make a
lot of replica in different sizes of old and new ships, like the
famous Bounty. And they're completely hand made. If you want to
buy one of these ships, be sure to bring along your passport and
flight ticket. The ships are delivered directly to the airport
at the day of your departure.
