Two weeks in Umbria

  10.7.01
Visit to Montone. The village, recently restored, perfectly offers itself to the tourist:

Visit to Pietralunga. This village, with a history that dates back more than 2 millennia, now sadly mixes old and new buildings; but there is still a lot to see.

Visit to Gubbio, once one of the most important towns of the regions; now probably one of the most beautiful:

The incredible and imponent "Palazzo dei Consoli" dominates the town, along with other monuments and churches:

The Duomo (cathedral) internally is sober and majestic; only at the beginning of this century the original structure has been restored, which previously had been covered by baroque addings. The town is tidy, with lots of open roadworks for restoring the monuments, stone paths, stone buildings...

The Roman anphitheatre of Gubbio.

Dinner at "Castello di Sorci", 3 km outside Anghiari; food of quite good quality, really traditional place: www.mnet96.com/sorci, www.italyone.com/Castellodisorci.

A view of the walls of Anghiari:
