Two weeks in Umbria

  12.7.01
Visit to Basilica of S. Francesco, in Assisi; probably one of the most important monuments in the world. It has been seriously damaged by the heartquake of 1997, but it's still unique:

The Basilica is built on three levels, in the previous picture we see the uppermost.
It's part of a bigger building, that we can see in the next picture (the arrow shows the position from where the last picture was taken):

4 kilometres above Assisi, we visit the Eremo delle Carceri: wonderful for its integration with the sorrounding environment; also nice to spend a couple of hours walking along the paths that develop in the forest.

Visit to Spello.

Visit to Montefalco, the village is known to be the home of the most famous wine of Umbria: the "Sagrantino di Montefalco", along with the better, more expensive, less known "Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito", a strong, sweet red wine.

Dinner in Foligno, where we have some wonderful examples of the Italian traditional food and the tasting of 3 wines, for a correct price, at "Il Bacco Felice", v. Garibaldi 73, 0742 341019.

We really recommend a stop here !
