Summer of 2001 was a bit of a challenge - where do you go to have fun with a teenager on crutches?  Answer - Denmark!  We headed out to the biggest fjord in Denmark near the tip of the Denmark mitten.  It was a looong trip, but worth it.  The holiday park we stayed at had everything we could have hoped for and the weather was great.  Can't ask for much more than that.

The big attraction was fishing, fishing, and fishing.  Everyday, almost all day long.  Sometimes successful, sometimes we were skunked but there was always hope that the BIG ONE might bite.

In between fishing, we managed to get Dave to try horseback riding.  First time out was in the ring with Barney.  Dave and Barney had an ongoing discussion - Barney wanted to head back to his stall and Dave wanted to ride.  Dave eventually won out, but it wasn't easy convincing Barney that it wasn't time to eat quite yet!

We did a little sightseeing in between kid stuff.  The churches were small but very pretty.  The sunset below was taken from the top of the hill across from our bungalow overlooking the Fjord.

About midweek we got everyone in the car and headed out to the North Sea.   Beautiful day, but the wind was just howling.  It didn't stop the kids from having a great time.  James tempted fate by hopping about without his sticks.   Fortunately, he didn't trip.

This view was looking down the road from our bungalow.  Lots and lots of wheat fields, clouds and windmills in this part of the world.

Denmark was voted best place for roadside stands.  They were everywhere, but this one was our favorite.  We had to stop every time we drove by and since the farm stand was on the way out of the holiday park, that meant an almost daily purchase.  The owner was wonderful - he spoke Danish, we spoke German and managed to complete transactions with a smile on everyone's face.  He made the best pickles.  We're still hoarding a couple of jars.

We weren't kidding about the wheat fields.

Or about fishing every day.

And when the fish just weren't biting, there was always enough wind for kite flying.

All in all, one of our nicest trips.
