The boys were away for a few days at school camp in August 2001, so we took off for
the mountains and some hiking outside of Wengen. A good hike always starts
off with a filling meal and everything tastes especially good at Kleine
Scheidegg located at the base of the Jung Frau and Eiger mountains.

Remember that Sausage Corner? Well, here's the view from about
1/2 hour later and a number of meters higher.

and... here's looking the other direction towards Grindelwald.

Hiking is interesting in the Alps. Hiking paths are shared with cows, horses,
goats and whoever or what ever else decides to take a walk. Here's Lynne
giving our good friend, Dan Letson, a "na na naaaa, na na nah, I'm here and
you're not" phone call.

This path was our very own version of "The Road Not Taken".
We made it down just past the avalanche control fences before we decided that
this was not one of our better ideas. The Cable Car at the top of the
photo worked much better.
The next day, we headed out to Grindelwald, First, Bachalpsee (very beautiful
mountain lake), then off to Faulhorn which is that little, tiny, very far away,
VERY HIGH peak in the center of the photo. Fortunately, Faulhorn had a
restaurant, with cake. More on that later. You can see the trail from the
lower right to the center of the picture.

More cows,

and lots of incredible scenery. The first part of the hike to
Bachalpsee was pretty easy.

This is Lynne, after climbing Faulhorn, for which she was rewarded with a big
slice of Swiss Apple cake. It almost made the climb worth it. In
fact, the cake was so good, that we had another slice once we got down off the
mountain (we had to wait for the bus to take us back to Wengen anyway, so why
not?).

Let's
end with the view from our hotel room...
