Here is a front view of the speaker system (Nestorovic Labs system 16). There a four identical satellites, two for each channel, one set on top of the other and up side down. There are also two subwoofer drivers facing the wall with about four inches space between the bottom edge of the cabinet and the wall. The satellites and the subwoofers are driven by two separate amplifiers. In the center of the picture you can see the Krell Modell 300C power amplifier which is used for the subwoofers. Under the Krell you see the Nestorovich Lab crossover NL12A which is used to cut all frequencees above 200 Hz. |

While the Krell amplifiers are ideal for the low ends. I use the Nestorovic Labs NA-1 tube power amplifiers (200 W mono) for the satellites. These amplifiers have the latest updates concerning the wirering and capacitors and give the highest definition I ever heard. The NL12A electronic crossover provides an 18db per octave slope at 200Hz and is used from me only for the lower end. For the higher end I use the internal crossover of the satellites. |

The satellites are placed on a 20" high speaker stand. The distance between the edge of the subwoofer farnestfrom the wall and back edge of the lower satellite on its stand should be 18". The satellites have a very wide dispersion patternthroughout their portion of the audio range and therefore a toe-in of the cabinets is not good. The two satellites per channel are connected to the power amplifier in a parallel configuration for a four ohm load. |

The rest of my components are displayed in the picture on the right. The record player is from AAS, the cartridge is the Accurate model from Clearaudio, the Phono preamplifier is the Klyne Model 7PX3.5. The old CD transporter and converter are from MSB technology. These two models will be replaced in the future. The component on the middle shelf is a modified version of the tube preamplifier model SFL-2 from Sonic Frontiers. All wirering between the board and the outputs were replaced with special wires, also the capacitors and tubes were replaced and the whole unit was tuned again. |

CablesAn Hi-End like this one, with so many high quality elements, have to be connected also with the highest quality cables possible. It is incredible how important cables are. My experience would say that they are just as important as the other equipments. Therefore I won't bother spending for cables the same amount of money as for the other components. When I had the possibility to hear the Fadel cables at my place for the first time in my life, I was shocked. The difference was so big, I thought that somebody brought a complete new Hi-End at my place. What before was sounding like clear, precise, nice, lovely now became also huge, monumental, apocalitic. A new dimension appeared, the whole ambience of the concert hall apeared everywhere, something I cannot explain in words. For the connections between the components, I used the "Reference One" type, and a special version of the "Goldline" loudspeakers system (made for me) to connect the tube amplifiers to the satellites. This system is shown in the picture on the right. The system is hanging from the roof. Instead of having two tubes it has four, two for each satellite. The connection to the tube amplifier is a conventional one.The connections to the subwoofers wasn't done with Fadel cables because, I thought, it wasn't worth to spend so much money for so little benefits. In fact low frequencies aren't so important as the mid or high range. This is at least what I thought until April 2002. My point of view concerning this changed after I had the possibility to try the "Coherence Duo" loudspeaker cables for the subwoofers (see my report). I changed all my connections to the Coherence type, also the ones for the low ends.Between the preamplifier and amplifiers Fadel made me a special version of the Coherence IC cable: After five meters from the amplifier the cable splits into two. One goes to the krell amplifier and the other to the Nestorovic mono blocs. I also received two demo power cord cables to try with the tube amplifiers or the preamplifiers. If you came directly to this page and you wish to visit my family site, click in the Rai family logo on the top left corner of this page. |
